Water, declining from the sun’s heat, cool
And overburdened with colour as the light,
Imagining such a place as ripe for growing
Many-coloured rainbows, watches as its rays
Sinks towards the sand below, green predominating,
Blue and gold and red subservient to its rule.
Within this submarine encounter, floating in sight
Of the surface’s waves which revolve about them, throwing
White salt spray at the attacking wind, it catches the day’s
Fire and refracts it through emerald-like, drops towards the waiting,
Lazy floating body of the diver, relaxing in free fall,
Motionlessly surrounded by the touch
Of the calm and gentle ocean current, eyes enraptured
By reflections, concentrating on the call
Of some unseen siren, receptive to the taste of salt, of such
An unknown flavour, entire being captured
Within this ultimate experience.
