Original Ⓒ 1975. Part 15 of a 22-poem sequence based on the major arcana of the Tarot deck.
This particular version of the deck came out with the James Bond movie Live And Let Die starring Roger Moore and Jane Seymour. The original deck was to be designed by Dali, but he asked too much, so the deck and images I'm working from were by Fergus Hall.
For copyright reasons I have not reproduced them here, and the picture was created using Bing Image Creator.
Italian Sonnet, imperfect. This one rhyming ABBA ABBA CDC DCD. The meter is not regular, although it tends towards iambic. I have deliberately broken the normal bounds of stanzas, which are seriously enjambed. Across quatrains, and tercets, and the bounds between the 8/6 balance. It seemed appropriately devilish.
I liked the fact that AI thinks incensed is a weak word and can not recognise the pun of an altar boy who used to be in charge of the thurible. The priest did most of the incensing, but sometimes delegated. Nor does it read the bible: Note Proverbs 20:8 "A king who sits on the throne of justice Disperses all evil with his eyes." Funny the things a devil will turn on its head.
