1974 I went to watch a Sheffield Shield match at the Sydney Cricket Ground. It was not quite as empty as I described, nor as dirty, but you could see it edging that way. Another "not quite sonnet" - 14 lines at least fits the required numbers. Ryme scheme is A-B-C-D-E-F-A-B-C-D-E-F-G-G, so the last two lines rhyme like Shakespeares! But that's about all. Because there are several "almost" types, particularly sonnets, I imagine I was fiddling with the form, trying to find something that suited me better. That I settled on nothing, while there are thousands of sonnets, both Italian and English, seems to me that the form has something going for it.
