This started as part of a conversation with another poet on All poet, who had written a limerick in a discussion I had stated where it appears everyone was a winner in the “Gold Star Lifetime Achievement Award” Someone later noticed that it appeared on April Fool’s day, although I got it the day before because of time zones.

I noted that the limerick could have used an extra syllable in one line - as it made on of the “feet” unbalanced. After a bit of banter about I responded with the original fist stanza:

“"iambs and trochees have similar meter
dactyls have three beats, appealing to Peter,
anapests rhyming with twelve-measure beat:
These are a few of my favourite feet.”

I realised i could go the whole way, parodying the famous song by Rogers and Hammerstein sung by Julie Andrews in “The Sound Of Music.” There was a minor problem -  the font used by the AP editor make a capital “i” look like a lower case “L”, and a couple of people commented. Since i couldn’t change the font, I swapped the position on words 1 and 3.

Line 2 is self referential - the main beat in the song is made up of dactyls, the first beat emphasised, the second and third unstressed - much like waltz time.
