Back in the 1970s I thought I had written a villanelle - Death By Water. I stuffed it up. In 2023, I decided to take the basics of that poem, make it more ambiguous and shorter in line length, and enter it in one of the AllPoetry Constructive Criticism contests. It placed third. For more details, read the nortes on those two poems.
Later that month I wrote Juliet (3) - another go at the villanelle form. It just seemed to fit the form - I often find villanelles mournful - one of the best is "Do Not Go gentle Into That Good Night", by Dylan Thomas. Well worth several reads.
