A tanka is a poetic form related to the haiku. The Japanese form, when expressed in English has three lines with lengths of 5, 7 and 5 syllables. The tanka adds two extra lines of seven syllables each. Traditionally a tanka has no title, but is often listed by its first name - hence the "title" in brackets.
