A modified Kyrielle Sonnet. Instead of the aabb rhyme scheme, I substituted the usual abba rhyme of an Italian sonnet. A Kyrielle sonnet usually has eight syllables, but I've also chosen iambic hexameter with 12 syllables.
The first week in December 2021, my wife and I celebrated our 40th anniversary with a week in a hotel with one of the best views in the world - right on Sydney harbour with views of the opera house and harbour bridge. At night we could watch the ferries maneuver past each other, lights playing a dance on the water as they arrived or departed. They looked like moving fairy lights, and the similarity between fairies and ferries stuck in this poem part description but also fantasy.
The photo shows the view - unfortunately taken when there were only a few boats around, and the telephoto lens means you can easily see the boats, rather than just the lights.
