Monochrome

i. Future Perfect

Posted pictures ornament the wall
One in monochrome, in black and white,
Shades of grey, no colour, only light:
Yesterday’s old memories in thrall.

Counterparts, to catch cerulean sky,
Groom’s attendants decked in blue, in sync;
Bridesmaids’ dresses measured out in pink,
Bride in white is monochrome’s reply.

Dream a future twinned from separate pasts,
Images distilled to last for years.
Owl eyes captured smiles, entrapping tears,
Vows once said with care in decades passed.

ii. Past Continuous

Yin and yang, female and male,
Ying and Chan, Sammy and Jono.
Stereo songs, to duet in mono,
Separate stories to weave in one tale.

Jono and Sammy, yang and yin,
Active, receiving, Chan and Ying,
Two join as one, vows and a ring,
A union, a blending, a place to begin.

Pledges promised, partnership wrought
More photos taken to capture the day,
Print and frame, to give and display,
Bride and groom, posed and caught.

iii. Present Indicative

At night our sight resets from cones
To rods which see in white and black.
Colours flee, nightmares attack,
We dream in monochrome.

Captured in digital, in ones and in zeros,
Photographers once captured on silver.
Magenta and yellow and cyan we pilfer,
Converting to greyscale for heroes.

Our mem’ries live in night sight too,
Our friends appear as part time clowns,
As cast in graduation gowns,
Devoid of olive, pink and blue.

iv. In Latin Imperative: Present and Future

Forgiveness of all, live love to the max,
Give all in your heart and one step beyond.
Whatever the need in fullness respond,
Do nothing by halves, bright whites and full blacks.

Cherish each other - in monochrome.
