Mercury: Summer Days, Winter Nights (Original)

    The sun floats bloated in the sky and flares
The boiling sun of Mercury, so bright
And hot it bleaches all the rocks grey-white,
A furnace burns, Satanic flames it bears.
This blaze before us sits and glows and glares;
Behind us, in the shade, eternal night,
The land forever hidden from the sight
Of that great fire, towards the stars it stares.

This station sits forever in the dawn,
To one side, in the night, cold darkness waits
The other holds the gleaming sun, half torn,
A flaming semi-orb, this land it hates
And covers with its fires, just newly born:

This place is Hell, and we live at its gates.
