Somewhere in the endless depths
of your ever-present smile,
I lost my heart to you.
Precious child, so full
of laughter and the joy of life,
I worry:
For these words came,
Not to you sitting snuggled under my chin,
But now,
When you are not here
and we sit grieving.
But you would say,
"Don't worry, it's alright Daddy. I love you."
You would not have sat still
and listened to my words.
Your life was always filled
with doing and with being and with loving.
So confident were you,
and oh, so rightly so,
That everyone you touched
was touched by you.
You knew so well our love for you
was given in full,
without stinting, without measure.
We will not fill your world with tears,
Though tears will often fill our eyes.
Our small world has been too deeply changed
by you,
and by your love,
That happiness cannot be lost forever.
