Beyond Control (Original)

Once there was a measure of sanity
In the world, a poise, a balance, an equilibrium,
A see-saw cycle of inconstant symmetry:

Green resurrections reviving the spring,
Browns and golds falling from autumn;
Nigh-moon darkness and day-sun brilliance,
Sunset coloured clouds irresolutely corrugating
The remnants of a morning-blue sky.

Do you remember saying good-bye
To them, changing your allegiance
To freeways and factories, steel and scaffolding,
Myopically mistaking telegraph poles for trees?

These are our cities:
Where is the balance?
