9: The Hermit (Original)

Seclusion: He sits alone, in isolation
From the world he has forsaken, his domain
Empty of all society. Only birds remain
To watch him as, in communication.
With himself, he enters into meditation:
Of his present circumstance, his pain,
And solitude descending on his soul like rain,
Challenging his vigilance with condemnation.
His hands in vigorous motion, fighting
And wrestling with words upon the page,
Attempting to control them with his writing,
Forcing them from fingers which indicate his age,
Encompassing all life with them, delighting
In their beauty, releasing him from his lonely cage.
